What a bummer! Stefanova finishes with 7.5 points and loses ELO points, as do Monika Socko and Pia Cramling!

I was tracking a young player during this tournament: Narmin Kazimova from Azerbaijan:
96 Kazimova Narmin 2071 AZE 5.0 57.0 69.0 4 37.0 57.0
She did not finish at 50% as I hoped she would, but she gained 57 ratings points, a good thing!
And I think this was probably a great experience for the young lady from Azerbaijan. I hope we see much more
of her in the future.

Little Red Riding Hood a/k/a WIM Anna Rudolf had a not so good tournament, because she lost ratings points, even though she finished above 50% (that just shows how tough the competition was in the upper middle rankings):
70 WIM Rudolf Anna 2302 HUN 6.0 47.0 58.5 5 34.5 -1.4

A sentimental favorite, pointed out by The Chief (may he rest in peace), did not have her best showing:
105 WGM Calzetta Monica 2264 ESP 5.0 48.5 60.0 3 27.5 -15.4

It was reported at both Chessdom.com and Susan Polgar's chessblog that IM Marie Sebag, who was the one and only chess femme to play in the "Men's" section (why?) earned her third and final GM norm with a 6.5/9 after Round 10 and had pushed her ELO into the mid 2500's!!!!  Congrats to the intrepid IM Sebag for accomplishing this coveted title!

If I haven't reported this before, here is a must read interview with the legendary GM Nona Gaprindashvili, who was awarded a GM title by FIDE in 1978 by virtue of her past performances and particularly her outstanding results at the 1977 Lone Pine tournament in the USA.

Darlings, I've updated coverage on the 2008 Frank K. Berry U.S. Women's Chess Championship!

Such news!  Such dedication by GM Susan Polgar -- Goddesschess had approached her earlier this year after an introduction affected by IM Phil Innes (he's one of the guys over at Chessville and I have a love/hate - mostly hate - relationship with the man [we are currently not speaking for the next 1,000 years]) Anyway, check out the coverage to get the latest news as I'm posting here.  There are a lot of sites that I visit trying to get the news and results, etc. for you - so bear with me.  I'll try to be timely as I can!   HEY, DAVID COOK ROCK ON, BABY, ROCK ON!  NEXT AMERICAN IDOL WINNER (JanXena confidently predicts), DAVID COOK FROM TULSA OKLAHOMA (I watched him tonight on the t.v.) will win. Tulsa, Oklahoma, home of the 2008 U.S. Chess Championships!
Postscript added May 30, 2008:  I was right, but not without several heart-attacks in-between times...
